BUFFALO – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards as the Bulls improved to 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2011-12.  Freshman Villhelm Fridell was named the MAC Singles Player of the Week, while Fridell and junior Petr Vodak were named the Doubles Team of the Week, the conference office announced Thursday morning.

Fridell went a perfect 4-0 for the Bulls this past weekend as UB swept conference road matches at Western Michigan and Toledo. In singles, Fridell won both of his matches at fourth singles in straight sets beginning with a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Broncos on Friday and he followed that up with another 6-2, 6-3 win on Sunday against the Rockets. He improved to 17-7 in singles play.

The duo of Fridell and Vodak went a perfect 2-0 at second doubles in road victories at Western Michigan and Toledo.  Against, Western Michigan they scored a 6-3 victory which helped secure the doubles point for the Bulls and then they added another 6-3 win on Sunday at Toledo.  This is the second time this season that Vodak and Fridell have claimed Doubles Team of the Week honors.

At 4-0 in league play, the Bulls are currently on an extended break before their play their final three conference matches in a span of five days, beginning on Wednesday, April 19 at Binghamton.
