KALAMAZOO, Mich. — In a battle of unbeaten Mid-American Conference teams, the University at Buffalo men’s tennis team defeated Western Michigan, 4-3, in Kalamazoo on Friday evening. The Bulls improved to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the MAC with the win.

After falling behind in doubles, 1-0, the Bulls won at one and two doubles to earn the doubles point. Hao Sheng Koey and Flip Grbic defeated Kennosuke Nouchi and Daniel Loebel at one doubles and Petr Vodak and Villhelm Fridell beat Matt Hamilton and Billy Heckman at two doubles.

The Bulls dropped the first two singles matches to fall behind 2-1 in the overall match. However, UB tied the match when Villhelm Fridell topped Matej Svjetlicic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, at fourth singles.
Ethan Nittolo followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jannik Opitz at six singles to give the Bulls a 3-2 lead in the match. It was Nittolo’s team-best 20th win of the season.

Hao Sheng Koey clinched the match for the Bulls with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win over Matt Hamilton at first singles. Koey improved to 17-8 overall on the season with the win.

The Bulls are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they play at Toledo.
