BUFFALO — Canisius freshman Cassie Ho was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after she hit .500 (3-for-6) with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Golden Griffins last week at the Mount St. Mary’s Invite in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

In the team’s 6-5 loss to Mount St. Mary’s March 25, the Honolulu, Hawaii native got the Griffs on the scoreboard first with a two-run homer to left. She also had a base hit, earned a walk and scored another run in the losing effort. Ho also had a base hit in the team’s 2-1 loss to Morgan State March 26.

Through 27 games this season, Ho ranks first among the team’s freshmen with her .304 batting average. She’s tied for second with 11 runs scored, and she is one of four Canisius players with 10-or more RBI on the year.

Canisius is 11-16 overall, and the team will host its home opener on Wednesday when cross-town rival Buffalo comes to the Demske Sports Complex. Game one of the twinbill is set to start at 4 p.m.
