WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Niagara Purple Eagles began their 2017 season at the 22nd Annual Monmouth Season Opener on Saturday.
Three Purple Eagles – Jamie Guadagno, Maggie Gerard and Alex Laubert – finished in the top-10 in their respective events. Jamie Guadagno placed ninth in the long jump (4.75m). Maggie Gerard finished the shot put in ninth place (11.82m). Freshman Alex Laubert ran the 100m hurdles in 16.62 which was good enough for eighth place.
Sarah Grubbs just missed out on a top-10 placement in the 800m with a time of 2:25.85. Kayla Murphy led the Purple Eagles in the 5k with a time of 19:35.37. Megan Helf and Aly Orfano each set personal-record times in the event at 19:51.31 and 20:28.68, respectively. Mara Skordynski led the team in the 400m (1:00.49) to finish in 14th place.
