COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University at Buffalo softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday at the Maryland Invitational Tournament.  UB lost 3-0 to nationally-ranked James Madison, before falling 6-3 to the host Terps.

In the opener on Saturday, UB hung tough with James Madison, who is ranked #12 in the country, before falling 3-0.  Sophomore Taylor Light picked up her first start of the season and she kept JMU off the board for the first three innings before the Dukes scored one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.  Light struck out two in 4.1 innings of work.  Charlotte Miller made her season debut out of the bullpen and pitched 1.2 innings of one-hit ball.

Buffalo was able to record just two hits against Odicci Alexander, who struck out seven.  Freshman Jenelle Martinez singled to lead off the second and fellow freshman Ufuoma Ogagan had an infield single in the fifth.

In the second contest of the day against Big Ten foe Maryland, the Bulls allowed the Terps to score the first three runs of the game as Maryland led 3-0 into the fourth when the Bulls found their way on the board. Martinez opened the fourth with a double to right center and she came in to score on a single to center field from fellow freshman Jessica Goldyn.

Maryland scored one more in the bottom of the fifth and UB scored again in the sixth as junior Danielle Lallos doubled to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  She came in to score on an infield single from Goldyn.

The Terps scored two more in the sixth, but the Bulls used the long ball in the seventh as Miller got her first at bat of the season and she sent a shot over the center field fence to pull the Bulls within 6-3, but they got no closer.

Goldyn went 2-for-2 from the plate, while recording two runs batted in, as the Bulls had six hits in the game.  Sophomore Ally Power picked up the loss as she allowed just two earned runs in 4.0 innings pitched.

The Bulls will conclude action at the Maryland Invitational Tournament on Sunday when they face Binghamton at 11 a.m.
