“Our guys are feeling good right now,” head coach John Stutzman said. “They are excited because they know they did everything right to get here. It’s now up to them to go take what they came for.”
At 125, Kyle Akins will take on Penn State’s Nick Suriano, the three seed at noon (EST). With Suriano battling an injury, it looks like Akins may win by medical forfeit. Akins has a 20-5 record on the year and finished fourth at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Bryan Lantry will also wrestle at noon (EST) in the 133 bracket. A 12-seed, Lantry will wrestle D.J. Fehlman in the first round. The redshirt-sophomore is 20-5 on the season and is ranked 11th by InterMat. He finshed second at the MAC Championships.
Finally, Jake Gunning, the 2017 MAC champion, will take on top seed and defending heavyweight national champion Kyle Snyder of Ohio State at 2 pm (EST). Gunning is 20-5 on the year and has won six straight matches.
All six sessions will be televised on either ESPN or ESPNU and every match will be carried on ESPN3 throughout the entire three-day competition.
