CHICAGO – The Niagara Purple Eagles were defeated by NCAA Division II power fourth-ranked Chicago and dropped a doubleheader to Big Ten powerhouse Purdue on Friday.

Chicago 9, Niagara 0

Chicago won all three doubles matches for a 3-0 lead. NU dropped all six singles matches in straight sets, though the second sets in No. 2  and No. 5 singles went into tie-breakers.

Purdue 4, Niagara 0

The Boilermakers and Purple Eagles played two matches of singles only competition. No. 2 singles was in the third set and NU was leading in six singles when the match was called. Taylan Ozdemir, playing in the two spot, won the first set, 6-4, and lost the second set 6-0. Lukas Wenninger was on his way to winning his match after winning the first set and was up 4-2 in the second set.

Purdue 5, Niagara 1

Brent Boleslav picked up Niagara’s lone win on the day with a straight set win over Purdue’s Matt Bouggy in five singles. Boleslav blanked Bouggy, 6-0, in the first set before finishing the match with a 6-1 win in the set. Boleslav is now second on the team in wins with six.

The Purple Eagles will play at Michigan State on Sunday, March 12 at 5 p.m.
