HUNTINGTON, W.V. – The Purple Eagles baseball team closed out its series at Marshall with a 9-6 loss on Saturday.

The Purple Eagles got off to a quick start. In the top of the first, with two runners on base, Battaglia singled to short to score Brophy and earn his first RBI of the day. In the top of the second, Julian Gallup homered to right field and Brophy added another run in the top of the third to put Niagara up, 3-0.

NU held Marshall scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when they scored twice to put the score at 3-2. The Herd dominated the next few innings, scoring five times in the seventh and twice in the eighth to take a 9-3 lead going into the ninth inning. Niagara crept back towards the lead in the top of the ninth. Battaglia doubled down the left field line, sending two runners home, then Greg Cullen scored, but the Herd did not relinquish the lead and came away with their second consecutive victory against the Purple Eagles.

Battaglia led Niagara with three RBI. He also had two hits and one double. Cullen had a team-high three hits and Brophy led the Purple Eagles in runs with three. Gallup went 2-for-4 at the plate and had one double, one homerun, one RBI and one run. Jordan Parranto (0-1) struck out three batters and allowed five runs in 2.0 innings pitched.

The Purple Eagles head to Ohio for a three-game series with Bowling Green March 17-19.
