HUNTINGTON, W.V. – The Purple Eagles baseball team was edged by Marshall, 5-4, on Friday.

Marshall took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Purple Eagles answered in the top of the second. Julian Gallup grounded out to second base, scoring Langlois to earn an RBI and tie up the score, 1-1. The Herd, however, got back on top in the third inning, taking a 3-1 lead over Niagara.
In the top of the fourth, the Purple Eagles picked up momentum on offense. Langlois earned his RBI, doubling to right field to send home Peter Battaglia. An error by first base then gave Langlois time to score and tie things up, 3-3. NU took its first lead of the game, 4-3, after Owen Dziados scored on a wild pitch. A homerun from Marshall tied things up once again, 4-4, going into the fifth inning. Both teams remained staunch on defense; the Purple Eagles held off the Herd until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Marshall scored its game-winning run.

The Purple Eagles close out their series with Marshall at 2 p.m. Saturday.
