CARBONDALE, Ill. – The men’s swimming and diving team had an outstanding performance in the pool on day three of the MAC Championships, adding an array of medals to their repertoire. The Bulls added four gold medals and a bronze to their medal totals. This success places the Bulls in second place with 427.5 overall team points.

Mason Miller continued to be a threat in the pool as he brought home his second individual gold of the MAC Championships. Miller had broken his own school record in the 100 Fly during preliminaries, while also breaking the meet and pool record. He carried that success into the finals and broke the school, meet, and pool record again. His time of 46.66 also broke the conference record, which was set back in 1999 by Kevin Northup from Miami (OH). Miller earned 20 points to add to the overall team score.

Itai De La Vega carried the record-breaking trend into his event as well. De Le Vega broke his own school record in the 100 Breast with a time of 53.61. His time also breaks the meet, conference, and pool record in that event and garnered 20 points for the Bulls overall score. Joining him in the Top-Three in the 100 Breast was teammate Garrett Clarke. Clarke placed third with a time of 54.23, also below the pool record. Luke Otto gained 13 points for the Bulls, clocking in at 54.65 for sixth place.

Hudson Carroll is also bringing home an individual gold. Carroll clocked in at 48.12 in the 100 Back for first place. His time added 20 points to the overall team score.

Carroll, De La Vega, Miller, and Martin Leigh added another gold medal to the Bulls’ total. The team swam to a finishing time of 3:13.06 for first place in the 400 Medley Relay.

Charles Barry and Scott Huang both landed in the Top-Ten in the 400 IM. Barry led the way in fifth place with a time of 3:53.33, while Huang came in seventh with a time of 3:56.74. Together, the two added 26 points to the overall team score.

The Bulls will finish up the MAC Championships on Saturday.
