The Canisius college indoor track program will wrap up its season this weekend, taking part in the ECAC/IC4A Championships beginning Saturday afternoon at Boston University.

The Griffs first event of the Championship will be senior Jeff Antolos running in the 5k final at 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the men’s distance medley relay trial and the men’s 4×800 trial.

On Sunday, the women’s distance medley relay team will race at 11 a.m., while the men’s distance medley relay team will race at 2:20 p.m. if they advance.

“The ECAC/IC4A is a great opportunity, it’s that carrot the athletes have as they go through the regular season,” Head Coach Nate Huckle noted. “The qualifications are very rigorous, so it gives them that extra goal beyond competing in the MAAC Championships.

“The facility at Boston University is outstaning, each time we’ve gone there we set school records, so it something were they’re looking forward to having one more chance to focus on one race and really conclude the indoor season with a great performance.”

Huckle sees the men’s distance medley relay team of, senior Xavier Sauvageau, sophomore Paul Henry, sophomore Josh Sopchak and senior Cooper Roach having a legitimate chance of breaking the school record in the event. “Cooper is running very well. Xavier is running well and should be a great lead leg for us in the 1200 and Cooper will be the anchor leg in the mile. Paul and Josh should work well in the 400, 800 legs in the middle. I think we can go significantly faster than our (9:54.79) school record, said Huckle.

“For the women this is the first time we’ve taking them to the Inddor ECAC Championship, this will be a good opportunity to get their feet wet and see what it’s all about. Hopefully for them, they can run a faster and break the record under the 12-minute mark.”

The women’s distance medley relay team of of junior Carlin Sullivan, junior Haylie Virginia, senior Haley Keene and sophomore Siobhan Quinn are coming off of a strong performance at the MAAC Championships, where they broke their own school record, placing third in 12:10.99.
