ROYTALTON — Five Barker School District students were injured when the bus they were traveling in this morning collided with a pickup truck at Rochester Road and Griswold Street at approximately 8:08 a.m. The driver of the pickup truck was also injured in the crash.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, patrol units responded and found both vehicles still in the intersection. The investigation reveals that a southbound school bus on Griswold Street, after stopping at the stop sign, proceeded to turn east onto Rochester Road, also while simultaneously a northbound pickup truck, after stopping at their stop sign, continued north striking the bus.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported by private vehicle to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. Five students were also injured, with one being treated and released at the scene for minor injuries, one being transported by ambulance to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport for a non-life threatening injury, and three being transported by private vehicle to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport for non-life threatening injuries. The remaining 14 students, including the bus driver, were uninjured.

The school bus had students from the Barker School District onboard and were en route to Royalton-Hartland High School, before an eventual destination to Orleans/Niagara BOCES in Medina.

No charges were filed at this time.
