BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres lost another third-period lead tonight, dropping the game in overtime to the Nashville Predators.

Filip Forsberg tied it for Nashville with 2:23 remaining in regulation and scored the winner 2:45 into overtime to give the Predators a 5-4 win over the home team.

Brian Gionta scored first for the Sabres, assisted by Zach Bogosian and Jack Eichel at 15:52 of the first period. Kyle Okposo made it 2-0 at 17:26, assisted by Jake McCabe and Matt Moulson. Mike Fisher pulled Nashville to within one at 18:49, assisted by Austin Watson and Matt Irwin.

Early in the second period, Colin Wilson tied the game for Nashville, assisted by Ryan Johansen and Roman Josi. Evander Kane took the lead back for Buffalo at 5:35, assisted by Gionta and Cody Franson.

Just 56 seconds into the third period, McCabe put Buffalo up 4-2, assisted by Okposo and Ryan O’Reilly. But Buffalo failed to protect the lead. Johansen made it 4-3 at 11:16, assisted by Forsberg and Irwin. Then Forsberg scored his first and second of the night, handing Buffalo the defeat.

Buffalo plays again on Thursday when they host Phoenix.
