BUFFALO — With the NHL trade deadline at hand, the Buffalo Sabres have taken part in just one deal in the past 24 hours with hockey fans wondering what may be in store today.

The Sabres announced on Tuesday that the team had acquired defenseman Mat Bodie from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Daniel Catenacci.

Bodie (6’0″, 175 lbs., 3/7/1990) currently ranks 12th among all AHL defensemen with 30 points (8+22) in 45 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack this season. In 196 career AHL games, Bodie has compiled 98 points (20+78) and 127 penalty minutes. The East St. Paul, Manitoba native signed with the Rangers as an undrafted free agent after captaining Union College to an NCAA championship in 2014 and being named to the All-Tournament Team.

The NHL trade deadline is at 3 p.m., however deals are often announced shortly after the deadline. Many hockey experts expect Buffalo to be “sellers” at the deadline, unofficially writing off this season in hopes of building something better for next year.
