LOCKPORT — City Republicans moved swiftly Wednesday to endorse the reelection bid of one local official Monday night, and GOP leader Adam VanDeMark is calling that decision “both obvious and smart.”

Following a unanimous Monday vote to endorse Legislature Chairman Wm. Keith McNall, VanDeMark praised the veteran lawmaker that represents the entirety of the city’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th wards, as well as much of the 1st Ward, in county government.

Niagara County Legislator Wm. Keith McNall speaks at a recent Niagara County Legislature meeting at the county courthouse in Lockport. His reelection effort is being endorsed by city Republicans.

“Keith McNall is pushing our county government in a new, more fiscally-conservative direction, and obviously, we’re pleased by that. At the same time, he remains a fierce champion for Lockport,” VanDeMark said. “The Lockport GOP subscribes to the old adage: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

VanDeMark noted that McNall has directed county funds to assist in city projects ranging from renovations at the Historic Palace Theatre to improvements at both the Outwater and AnJo baseball fields. McNall has also ensured a steady stream of funding for the popular Lockport Community Market, with county government covering half the costs of the weekly farmers’ and artisans’ market through Seneca Niagara Casino revenues.

“Keith McNall always ensures the taxpayers of Lockport get their fair share,” VanDeMark said. “He also helped make Flight of Five restoration and the Cornerstone Ice Arena a reality.”

McNall, in addition to chairing the County Legislature, also sits on the board of directors of the Cornerstone Community Credit Union and is a trustee of the Supreme Court Law Library.

VanDeMark noted that in the 14 months since McNall became chairman of the County Legislature, the county government has passed its first budget in years that actually cuts spending, and that brought tax rates to their lowest level this century.

“Under Chairman Keith McNall, county government’s price tag has been cut. That alone earns him our endorsement,” VanDeMark said.

The Lockport Republican Committee will issue additional endorsements as they occur.
