The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced its 2016-17 women’s basketball All-MAAC Teams on Monday afternoon, and sophomore Sara Hinriksdottirwas named to the All-MAAC Second Team.

This is the first All-MAAC award that Hinriksdottir has received, as the Keflavik, Iceland native leads the Griffs in points per game (15.0) and rebounds per game (5.9).

Aside from leading the team, she has been near the top of the MAAC rankings in points per game, ranked sixth in the MAAC with her 15 point per game average.

Hinriksdottir burst onto the scene this year, after a stellar freshman campaign in which she averaged 5.3 points per game, and 2.4 rebounds per contest. The sophomore looked far more comfortable in her second year as those averages skyrocked toward the top of the MAAC rankings.

Aside from those point per game and rebound per game averages, Hinriksdottir has been the model of consistency, both from the floor, and in posting double-figure contests. Hinriksdottir shot 46.6 percent from the field, while posting multiple eight-or-better double-digit streaks, going on a nine-game streak, as well as two-eight game streaks.

It didn’t take Hinriksdottir long to show that she was a different player this season, as she quickly set her new career-high in points with a 29-point effort on Dec. 19, against Morehead State.

She also hit another milestone against Rider on Feb. 12, as the sophomore recorded her first double-double, scoring 20 points and notching 12 rebounds against the Broncs.

The Griffs continue its season on Thursday morning, as the squad takes on the No. 9 seeded Niagara Purple Eagles, for the second straight season. Canisius finished the year with a 9-20, and 8-12 conference mark to secure the No. 8 seed in the tournament. The game will be aired live on MAAC.TV.
