WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump this morning called the election of Buffalo native Tom Perez to the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee “rigged.”

Perez, considered the “establishment candidate,” beat out Keith Ellison of Minnesota for the chairmanship on the second ballot during a vote in Atlanta. He then moved to appoint Ellison as deputy chairman, which was then affirmed by a voice vote.

The president had the following to say on Twitter:

Saturday, Trump had offered a backhanded congratulations to Perez, saying his election to lead the Democratic Party would be good for the GOP. Perez shot back that he and Ellison would be Trump’s “worst nightmare.”

Perez has not responded to today’s tweet, but did have harsh words for the president on Meet The Press this morning, saying, “He hasn’t proposed anything but chaos and carnage from day one. We’ve seen no evidence of anything constructive from this president.”
