NIAGARA UNIVERSITY — Marvin Prochet led the game with a career-high 22 points as Niagara Purple Eagles were edged by the Fairfield Stags, 62-58, on Sunday.

The first half had eight lead changes and four ties. Trailing 11-10, Niagara went on a 9-2 run thanks to a pair of Marvin Prochet free throws and seven straight points for Chris Barton. However, Fairfield answered with a 19-5 run to end the half, giving the Stags a 32-24 lead.

The Stags led 39-28 with 17:21 remaining when the Purple Eagles gradually chipped away at the deficit. Down 44-40 with 10 minutes left, the Purple Eagles reeled off on a 6-0 run to regain the lead. The Purple Eagles led 47-46 with 6:43 remaining when the Stags went on a 12-2 run in the next five minutes for a 58-49 advantage.

The Purple Eagles will be the No. 9 seed and will play eighth-seeded Quinnipiac in the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championship First Round on March 2 at 5 p.m. in Albany.
