Buffalo State’s men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, this Friday and Saturday at The College at Brockport’s Special Events Recreation Center.

The men’s team is looking to win its third title in the past seven years.  The Bengals have previously won titles in 2011 and 2014, and placed second last season.

Buffalo State will look to returners Robert Liebel (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) and James Willard (Albany/Albany) to help lead the scoring.  Liebel placed third in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 60-meter dash at last year’s indoor championships. Willard placed seventh in the 60-meter dash.

The Bengals will also look for points from Mohamed Kouyate (Bronx/Dreamyard Prep) and Chris Duhaney (Hempstead/Uniondale).  Kouyate ran the 26th fastest time in the 400-meter event in Division III with a time of 49.73 at the Mount Union Wuske Invitational.  Duhaney sits 37th in DIII with a time of 8.41 in the 60-meter hurdles at the Highlander Invitational.

Buffalo State will also look for help from runners Darren Thompson (Buffalo/St. Joe’s), Tre’Maine Moore (Rochester/Greece-Olympia), Blaine Billings (Newburgh/Newburgh Free), Cody Sikora (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda), Cody Lambert (Kenmore/Kenmore West) and Mitchell Rabold (Amherst/Sweet Home).  Robert Alexis (Middletown/Middletown) in the high and long jump, Thomas Sayles (Jamesville/Fabius-Pompey) in the pole vault, Moore in the long jump, and Nick Gray (Williamsville/Williamsville South) in the shot put, are also looking to score valuable points.

The women’s team is also looking to continue its run of recent success at the conference level.  The Bengals finished third overall last season, and have won the SUNYAC championships in four of the past eight years.

Buffalo State will look to returners Catarra Burroughs (Rochester/Wilson Magnet), Dayonna Holmes (Rochester/Charlotte), Ronni Kordrupel (East Aurora/Iroquois) and Emikhe Tisor (Bronx/Fashion Industries) to help lead the scoring.

Burroughs won the 60-meter dash (7.79) in last year’s championships and placed third in the 200-meter event (25.83).  The junior early childhood education major is 15th in Division III in the 60m this year, clocking a 7.83 in the Golden Eagle Invite back on Feb. 18.

Kordrupel placed sixth in last year’s 800-meter run (2:20.10) while Tisor finished eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.62).  Holmes picked up a sixth-place finish in the long jump (5.50m) and placed eighth in the 60-meter dash (8.07).  Entering the weekend, Holmes ranks 21st in all of DIII in the long jump with a mark of 5.52m at the Golden Eagle Invite.

The Bengals will also look for runners Satin Holmes (Rochester/Wilson Magnet), Tiffany Raymond (Baldwin/Baldwin), and Elizabeth Wall (Horseheads/Horseheads) to help in team scoring.
