BUFFALO – Brett Perry of the University at Buffalo wrestling team was named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week on Wednesday after posting an upset win in UB’s victory over Binghamton.
Perry upset 15th-ranked Steve Schneider in the 184 lb. match to help lead the Bulls to a 31-9 win over Binghamton on Friday night. Perry trailed 4-3 going into third period, before earning two third-period takedowns to win the match, 7-6. It was the biggest win of his career and his first ever over a ranked opponent.
Perry improved to 16-13 overall and 9-8 in duals on the season. The redshirt-sophomore finished the regular season by winning seven of his last 10 duals.
Perry is the fourth different Buffalo wrestler to win MAC Wrestler of the Week this season. James Benjamin won the award on December 1, Colt Cotten took home the honor on December 21 and Jason Estevez won the award on January 11.
Buffalo will next compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships beginning March 4 at Northern Iowa.
