BUFFALO — Canisius freshman Cassie Ho has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s (MAAC) Rookie of the Week after she hit .417 (5-for-12) with six RBI and two runs scored last week for the Golden Griffins in four games. The Honolulu, Hawaii native is the third Canisius softball player to earn a MAAC weekly award this season, joining with teammates Lauren Castro and Madi Weathers, who were honored by the league office for their play in the team’s season-opening weekend.

Ho continued the hot-start to her collegiate career last week, with three of her five hits at the Charlotte First Pitch Classic going for extra-bases. In Canisius’ 6-4 win over Bowling Green Feb. 17, she went 2-for-2 with a double, and her three-run homer in the sixth drove in the eventual game winning run. She had a double and two RBI in a 9-8 loss to Charlotte Feb. 18, and she scored an insurance run in the eighth inning against St. Bonaventure Feb. 19, as the Blue and Gold posted a 3-1 win over their long-time rivals. All six of her RBI last week came with two outs, and she ended the week by posting a .500 on-base percentage and an .833 slugging percentage. Defensively, Ho was credited with four putouts in the outfield.

Through her first seven career games, Ho is hitting .400 (8-for-20) with four doubles, a homer, 8 RBI and four runs scored. She’s stolen a base and boasts a .750 slugging percentage and a .478 on-base percentage as well.

The Griffs are 4-5 on the year. The team will return to action March 3 at the Upstate Classic, and event co-hosted by Furman and USC Upstate in South Carolina.
