BUFFALO — Armando Navarrete-Dominguez, 29, of Mexico, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with illegally re-entering the United States after a conviction for an aggravated felony. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Lamarque, who is handling the case, stated that according to the complaint, on February 15, 2017, the defendant was taken into custody after a vehicle and traffic stop on Grand Island. The complaint further states that when questioned by a Border Patrol Agent, Dominguez admitted that he is a citizen of Mexico and is illegally present in the United States.

Record checks revealed that the defendant was previously convicted in North Carolina of sexual exploitation of a minor and breaking and entering. Further, Dominguez was deported and removed from the United States to Mexico in 2009 after his convictions in North Carolina.

Dominguez made an initial appearance today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and is being held pending a detention hearing scheduled for February 22, 2017.

The criminal complaint is the result of an investigation by U.S. Border Patrol, under the direction of Patrol Agent-in-Charge Steven Oldman.
