AMHERST — Both area Jewish Community Centers, on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo and North Forest Road in Amherst, were evacuated late Monday morning, following at least one bomb threat.

“There was a phoned-in bomb threat,” Amherst Assistant Police Chief Charles Cohen said, referring to a call that came in to the Amherst facility at about 11:15 a.m. The evacuated people were taken to the nearby Weinberg Campus, but the all-clear alert was sounded some time around 12:30 to 12:45 p.m.

“The NFTA dog helped us with a sweep,” Cohen said. “Areas where we couldn’t get a dog in were visually checked by officers and staff.”
