SYRACUSE — The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team went on the road for the first time this spring on Saturday afternoon, but fell 6-1 to ACC foe Syracuse.
The Orange won the doubles point by taking wins at one and a 7-5 win at three. UB’s number two team of Anna Savchenko and Chantal Martinez Blanco won again, picking up the 6-3 victory.
In the singles action, Savchenko won UB’s lone match at six as she defeated Nicole Mitchell, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. The Bulls went in third sets at three and four, but were unable to win super tiebreakers in either match.
“The match was a lot closer than the final score indicates and both doubles and singles could have swung our way,” said assistant coach Smaranda Stan. “I was proud of everyone for how hard they fought the entire time and the freshmen really stepped up against a solid team on the road. These are the matches that will help us grow and be ready for conference play.”
It is a quick turnaround for the Bulls as they host Quinnipiac tomorrow at 12:00 pm. It is part of a joint dual match with the UB’s men’s team at Miller Tennis Center.
