NEW YORK — The team of senior Brennan Root, sophomore Paul Henry, sophomore Josh Sopchak and senior Cooper Roach placed second in the men’s distance medley relay with a time of 10:00.12, as the Canisius Indoor Track program completed day one of the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday evening from the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center.

The women’s distance medley relay team of junior Carlin Sullivan, junior Haylie Virginia, senior Haley Keene and sophomore Siobhan Quinn broke their own school record, placing fifth in 12:10.99.

The other finals event of the evening, the 5k, saw senior Jeff Antolos place eighth in the men’s race with a time of 15:00.79, while senior Anna Phillips ended in tenth on the women’s side at 18:08.14

In the trial events from day one both Roach and senior Xavier Sauvageau advanced to the men’s mile final to be held at 5 p.m. Sunday. Roach finished the trial in fifth place at 4:20.8, while teammate Sauvageau ended in sixth with a time of 4:21.3.

In the men’s 800 meter trial, Henry qualified for Sunday’s final by placing seventh with a time of 1:55.97.

Day two begins Sunday at 4:50 p.m. with the women’s mile final and will feature 15 other track finals events, including the men’s and women’s 3k at 6:35 p.m.
