BUFFALO — Buffalo State started off with a strong first half, and withstood Cortland’s second half charge to defeat the Red Dragons, 78-70 in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

Five Buffalo State players finished with double-digit scoring, led by Jordan Glover’s (Buffalo/St. Joe’s) 19 points. Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) chipped in 12 points and five assists while Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) added 11 points and Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) finished with 10. The Bengals got the game started with a 3-pointer from Henry and never looked back the rest of the way. Buffalo State finished the first half with a 50-33 advantage.

Cortland started to battle back in the second, and got the game as close as 69-66 with 5:23 left to play. The Bengals got two free throws by Jordan Chateau (Bayside/Lowell) and a free throw and 3-pointer from Glover down the stretch to take a nine-point lead with 38 seconds remaining.
Cortland traded two lay ups for a free throw and a bucket from Buffalo State, as the Bengals closed out the 78-70 win. Buffalo State sits in fifth place in the SUNYAC standings with the victory, holding a two-game edge over Plattsburgh and Fredonia and a game and a half advantage over Geneseo in the fight for the playoffs.  The top six teams in the conference advance to the post season.

Buffalo State takes on Oswego tomorrow in another SUNYAC contest, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
