BUFFALO — The Canisius Swimming and Diving program will take part in the 2017 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Wednesday and running through Saturday from the Burt Flickinger Center.

The first official event will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. with the men’s one-meter diving, while the swimming portion of the event will begin with the women’s 200-medley relay at 6 p.m.

The four-day championship will feature swimming and diving events each day, concluding with 13 events Saturday evening beginning at 6 p.m.

The Blue and Gold will look to repeat strong performances from a year ago which saw three individual championships including junior Rebecca Anthone in the women’s 500 free and junior Travis Wright in the men’s one and three meter diving events. For his performance Wright was also selected as the 2016 Most Outstanding Male Diver for the MAAC.

Overall, the Golden Griffins placed third on the women’s side with 518 points and fourth in men’s play with 432.5 points a year ago.

The 2016-17 Griffs head into the championship on a high note, after sweeping their last three meets of the year against Binghamton, Gannon, and Niagara.

The Championhsip will be streamed on the conference website, maacsports.com, and can be followed on social media platforms including the Canisius Swimming and Diving handle, @GriffsSwim.
