NIAGARA UNIV. — The Purple & White Club received a boost in donations and membership during the Purple Eagle Giving Challenge initiated by alumnus Jim Hart ’69.

“With the advent of the Niagara Athletic Council, created by Simon Gray our Athletic Director, I believe it was timely to take a leadership role to encouraging fellow alumni and friends to support and augment the overall budget for the Purple Eagles,” Hart said.

Hart challenged every Purple Eagle supporter by matching all gifts made to the Niagara University Department of Athletics up to $5,000 by Jan. 31. The challenge was so successful that Hart extended his matching amount to $6,000 for a total amount raised over $12,000.

Twenty-five donors participated in the challenge, including 12 from the Class of 1969. The Purple & White Club also gained seven new members from the challenge.

“Mr. Hart is an ardent supporter of the Purple Eagles,” Director of Athletics Simon Gray said. “This challenge is the most recent of his numerous efforts to enhance Niagara Athletics. Those that met his call are shining examples of the generosity and dedication of so many Niagara alumni. Our current student-athletes are indebted to those that continue to step up and make a difference.”
