Canisius head men’s basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon announced today that the Golden Griffins are joining the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge. The contest directly benefits American Cancer Society through the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative.

Friends, family and fans of the Griffs are encouraged to make a contribution for every 3-point field goal made in the month of February to help the men’s basketball program reach its goal of raising $5,000 for the Coaches vs. Cancer Campaign.

As of Feb. 1, Canisius has made 231 3-pointers as a team, which ranks 24th in the nation. People interested in helping support the Griffs’ effort in the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge can make a donation based on total 3-pointers made during the month, on a per game basis or through a straight donation to the campaign.

About Coaches vs. Cancer

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). This initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. Since 1993, coaches have raised more than $100 million for the American Cancer Society.

Follow the national 3-Point Challenge competition at www.3pointchallenge.org. Your pledge will help Canisius become the 3-Point Challenge Champion over other rival schools in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and across the nation. And you will help save lives from cancer at the same time.

Every shot counts. Every life counts. All proceeds help the American Cancer Society save lives and celebrate life. For additional information, please contact Joe LaVare at lavarej@canisius.edu or visit www.coachesvscancer.org.
