BUFFALO — Winners of six of their last seven duals, the University at Buffalo wrestling team will travel downstate for a non-conference dual at Hofstra on Saturday. This will be the first meeting between the schools since 2009.

The Bulls are coming off a 22-14 win at Old Dominion last Friday to improve to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference. Tyler Rill provided the biggest upset of the match, taking down 15th-ranked Seldon Wright. Kyle Akins continues to be one of the Bulls’ hottest wrestlers. The 125-pounder has won his last five matches by tech fall or fall.

Hofstra is 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the EIWA. Last time out, the Pride lost a 24-12 dual to Columbia on January 21. Hofstra is led Sage Heller at 174 lbs. who is 22-10 and 6-5 in duals. Nezar Haddad is 8-3 in duals at 197 lbs.

This will be the ninth meeting between the schools with Hofstra holding a 4-3-1 edge in the series. The teams battled to a 16-16 tie in 2009, the last time they met.


The dual is scheduled to start at 1 pm at Hofstra’s David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
