BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo’s track and field team is splitting up this Friday and Saturday; with half traveling to University Park, PA to compete in the Penn State Nationals, and the other half in traveling to Geneva, OH for the Mid-West Invitational. The Bulls are coming off a second peace finish at the Upstate Challenge. And a recent regional ranking in the Northeast, with the men fourth and the women ninth.

The stakes are high for the Bulls this weekend after being regionally ranked fourth and ninth in the most recent Northeast Region rankings. The Bulls also have several regionally ranked individual athletes. Joshua Gali, a senior for the Bulls, is regionally ranked first in two individual events: 200m (21.28ct) and 400m (48.14). Gali’s time in the 200m is also currently ranked first in the MAC, helping him to earn the most recent Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week. Kaishaun Cathey, another senior for the Bulls, is regionally and nationally ranked in the triple jump. With a distance of 51′ 10.5″, Cathey is ranked first in the MAC, first in the Northeast Region, and fourth in the NCAA. He was also named MAC Track Athlete of the Week after their first meet of the season. Ryan Cribbin also holds a first place regionally ranking in the shot put with a distance of 57′ 11.75″.

The Bulls have several athletes regionally ranked second in their respective events. After an impressive performance at the Upstate Challenge, clocking in at 7.89 in the 60H, Ryan Billian is currently ranked second in the region and first in the MAC. Billian also holds a seventh place regional ranking in the 60m dash. Devon Patterson ranks second regionally in the shot put and third in the conference with a distance of 57′ 11.25″. Jen Thill ranks second regionally for her height of 12′ 5.5″ on the pole vault. Jess Dhaliwall currently ranks second regionally and third in the conference in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 60′ 1″. Other regionally ranked athletes are Mitchell Moore in the 400m at sixth, Laurent Dure in the high jump at seventh, Christine Lyttle in the 60H at seventh, and Emma Siuciak in the high jump at fourth.

With the upcoming meets, the Bulls will be separating: sending some to the Penn State National and sending some to the Mid-West Invitational. The Mid-West Invitational will showcase some of the newer athletes to the Bulls, while the Penn State National will showcase some more experienced athletes. Last year, the Bulls performed well at each competition breaking a couple school records and seeing success from various athletes.

The Bulls are hoping to have another good experience at the meets, but are always looking to improve from competition to competition. With MAC Indoor Championships just about three weeks away, the Bulls are hoping to make an impression at the upcoming meets leading into championships.

The Penn State National is set to begin at 5 p.m. Friday and resume at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Mid-West Invitational is set to begin at 2 p.m. Friday and resume at 10 a.m. Saturday.
