The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected both the Canisius men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs as part of its Scholar All-America Teams, the organization announced Wednesday. Overall, the CSCAA recognized 638 teams from 394 institutions for their achievments in the classroom during the 2016 fall semester.

The CSCAA Fall Scholar All-America Teams consist of college and university swimming and diving programs that hold a grade point average of 3.0 or higher from the fall semester. The Canisius men’s team posted a team grade point average of 3.24 in the fall, which ranked third among MAAC schools. The women’s team posted a grade point average of 3.44 last semester, which ranked fourth in the MAAC.

11 MAAC swimming and diving programs were recognized by the CSCAA for their classroom contributions during the 2016 fall semester. Canisius is one of five schools in the MAAC to have both its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs honored by the CSCAA.

With the 2017 spring semester underway, the Griffs will now look ahead to the 2017 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held in Buffalo at the Burt Flickinger Center Feb. 8-11.
