ITHACA — The University at Buffalo’s track and field team headed to Ithaca this Saturday to compete in the Upstate Challenge. The Bulls had an outstanding performance, with both the men and the women placing second overall; the men with 112 points and the women with 131 points. They both placed second behind the Cornell Bears.

For the men, they had several athletes show impressive performances. Joshua Gali, a senior for Buffalo, took first place in the 60m dash with a time of 6.92, while fellow teammate, Mitchell Fuller, took third with a time of 6.99. Gali also took first place in the 200m with a time of 21.66. Teammate, Mitchell Moore, clocked in at 22.86, placing fourth. Ryan Billian, a fifth year senior, took home first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.98. Not far behind him was teammate Christian Doherty. Doherty clocked in at 8.39, enough for a fourth place finish.

In the field events, Laurent Dure was able to jump into a second place finish in the high jump. The senior cleared a height of 6′ 8.25″. Teammate Connor Spiegel was able to clear 6′ 0.5″ for a fifth place finish. The men also took fourth and fifth in the long jump. Alex Siracusa led the way with a distance of 23′ 0″; Christian Doherty jumped in right behind him with a distance of 22′ 7.25″. Freshman Gyasi Morris was able to nab a Top-Five finish in the triple jump for the men. He hit a distance of 43′ 7.75″ for a fifth place spot. Ryan Cribbin, Devon Patterson, and James Hanners all saw a Top-Five finish in the shot put, with Cribbin leading the way in first. Cribbin threw for distance of 57′ 11.75″; Patterson came in second with a distance of 56′ 10.25″; and Hanners finished fourth with a distance of 49′ 0.25″.

The women also several Top-Five finishes at the meet. Senior Tyra Forbes was able to place fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.78. In the 200m, Amy Villarini led the way for the Bulls with a third place finish, clocking in at 25.86. Christine Lyttle just missed out on a Top-Five finish, coming in sixth with a time of 26.85. Dual athlete Sydney March took home third in the 400m with a time of 1:00.66. Corinne Birchard, also a dual athlete for Buffalo, placed first in the 3000m with a time of 10:08.08, over six seconds faster than second place. In the 60m hurdles, the Bulls landed four athletes in the Top-10. Christine Lyttle led the way with a third place finish in a time of 8.61; in fourth place was Kailyn Arcury with a time of 8.66; in fifth place was Selina Von Jackowski with a time of 8.80; and in eighth place was Nikari Carota with a time of 9.14. The relay team of Sydney March, Juliana Basla, Sylvia Russell, and Caroline Rusch took third in the 4X800 relay with a time of 9:49.60.

In the field events, the Bulls saw some personal records and Top-Five finishes. Samantha Hjelmar, a freshman for the Bulls, led the way in second place with a height of 5′ 5″. Joining her in the Top-Five was Selina Von Jackowski in fifth with a height of 5′ 1`”. Jen Thill took first place in the pole vault at the competition, clearing 12′ 5.5″. Senior Emma Siuciak took second in the long jump, posting a distance of 18′ 1″. Crystal Henderson placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 37′ 8.75″. Joanna Hallisy did well for the Bulls in the shot put. She threw for a distance of 44′ 8.25″, a third place finish. The Bulls saw three Top-Five finishes in the weight throw. Jess Dhaliwall led the way with a first place finish, marking a distance of 60′ 1″; behind her was third place finisher McKenzie Kuehlewind with a distance of 56′ 10.25″, and in fourth with a distance of 56′ 3″ was junior Miranda Daucher.

The Bulls will be back in action next weekend.
