BUFFALO — Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center will be closed today as part of the J20 Art Strike, a nationwide collaborative effort by the art community to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump as president.

The group of art museums and galleries who have chosen to take part in the movement signed a joint letter explaining their desire to “combat the normalization of ‘Trumpism,'” which they call “a toxic mix of white supremacy, misogyny, xenophobia, militarism, and oligarchic rule.”

Hallwalls explained on its Facebook page that on Saturday, the center will be open and offer free admission to the gallery and cinema from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. as part of the “Solidarity Hub” taking place inside Babeville, where the art center is located. The full post is below.

Hallwalls has been open inside Babeville — the former Asbury Delaware Methodist Church on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Tupper Street — since January, 2006.
