After going 7-1 last weekend, the Buffalo State Bengals return with seven athletic events this weekend, including five at home.

Men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s ice hockey all host contests on Buffalo State’s campus.

Here’s the complete rundown of what is on tap for Buffalo State athletics this weekend:

Men’s Basketball

Buffalo State’s men’s basketball hosts Geneseo (10-3, 5-1) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the BSC Sports Arena before heading to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles (10-3, 5-1) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Both weekend opponents are tied with Oswego State for first place in the SUNYAC.  Buffalo State (9-4, 3-4) currently sits in a tie for sixth with Fredonia for the final conference playoff spot.

The Bengals had a four-game winning streak snapped with a one-point loss against Brockport on Tuesday and look to bounce back against two of the better teams in the conference.

Buffalo State senior guard Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) needs just 13 points to become the 23rd player in school history to score 1,000 career points.  Senior Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) achieved the milestone just last week at Potsdam.

Women’s Basketball

The Bengals rallied from 11 points back in the fourth quarter to defeat Brockport, 50-48, in its last game played on Tuesday.

Buffalo State leads the all-time series with Geneseo, 42-34, but the Knights have won the past six meetings.

Bengal senior guard Taylor Graham (Santa Rosa, CA/Maria Carrillo) leads the SUNYAC with 2.8 steals per game.  Princella McCullough (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) ranks seventh (2.0) and Caleh McLean (New Rochelle/New Rochelle) is 12th (1.7).

Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving

After more than a month off from competition, Buffalo State’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host Oswego in a dual meet at Kissinger Pool on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The men’s team is 3-1 in dual meets this season while the women’s side is 2-2.

Connor Mergler (East Amherst/Williamsville North) won the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events and Alyssa Greymont (Morgan Hill, CA/Flex Academy) placed third in the 500 free when Buffalo State last competed in the Hamilton College Invitational, Dec. 2-3.

Oswego swept Buffalo State in its last dual meet back on Jan. 16, 2016.  The Lakers knocked off the men, 163-93 and the women, 163-83.

The Bengals’ Tyler Minnick (Latham, NY/Shaker) placed first in the 200 fly in last year’s meeting with a time of 2:10.15.

Results for the meet will be available afterwards on buffalostateathletics.com.

Women’s Ice Hockey

Buffalo State’s women’s ice hockey plays host to William Smith (4-7-2, 1-4-1) in an ECAC West series this weekend at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
The Bengals (8-4-1, 3-3-0) play on Saturday at 7 p.m. and follow it with a game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Buffalo State is riding a three-game winning streak to open the New Year, most recently defeating Williams on Tuesday, 2-1.  The Bengals have 12-straight league games left to close out the regular season.

Buffalo State is 3-1 all-time against William Smith.  The Bengals split a two-game set in Geneva last season, winning 3-1 before falling 4-1.

Junior forward Erin Gehen (West Seneca/West Seneca West) continued her ascent on Buffalo State’s all-time scoring list, moving into a tie for second with Nikki Kirchberger with 62 points.  She also moved into third on the school’s all-time goal scoring list with 34.
