TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 32-year-old Lockport man was charged Tuesday with second-degree criminal contempt following a traffic stop on Transit Road.

According to New York State Police, Troopers stopped Michael W. Smith for an expired inspection sticker. Troopers then found that the owner of the vehicle had a full stay away order against Smith. Further investigation revealed that Smith had just driven the protected party to a place of employment just prior to the traffic stop.

Smith was placed under arrest for violating the order of protection and transported to SP Lockport for processing. He was arraigned in the Town of Lockport Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear at a later date.
