BUFFALO — Canisius junior midfielder Erica Evans has been named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Second Team, the publication announced today as part of its 2017 Preseason All-America Face-Off Yearbook.

Evans, the two-time MAAC Midfielder of the Year, is the only women’s lacrosse player from the MAAC to be highlighted by Inside Lacrosse, after a 2016 campaign that saw the midfielder become the first Canisius women’s lacrosse player to earn All-America honors, being named to the IWLCA Third Team.

Last season, Evans also garnered regional All-America and all-conference honors, while being named the Canisius Female Athlete of the Year. Evans set new school records with 91 points and 72 goals – topping the previous standards by 10 points and 13 goals – while also leading the Griffs with 81 draw controls, 47 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers. The midfielder finished 2016 ranked fifth nationally in scoring and her 72 goals were third-best in the country. She also ranked second in goals per game (3.6) and sixth in points per game (4.55).

Aside from her personal accolades, Evans helped lead the Blue and Gold to its fifth MAAC Championship in program history in 2016. She was named the MAAC Tournament MVP after setting the school’s postseason record with nine goals in two victories over Fairfield and Monmouth.

With the honor, the Peterborough, Ontario native becomes the first Griff to receive the Preseason All-America accolade from Inside Lacrosse.
