BUFFALO — It was another solid semester in the classroom for University at Buffalo student-athletes as they posted a combine 3.029 grade point average. It marked the 10th straight semester UB student-athletes have surpassed the 3.0 combined mark.
Men’s soccer claimed the top spot for the fall with a 3.449 team GPA, up from the 3.359 GPA they posted in the spring. Women’s tennis led all women’s teams with a 3.414 GPA. Women’s tennis also had the most improved semester from the spring, followed by men’s tennis (2.792) and men’s swimming and diving (3.077).
Overall, 11 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – men’s soccer (3.449), women’s tennis (3.414), women’s swimming and diving (3.389), women’s basketball (3.326), women’s soccer (3.279), men’s cross country (3.242), women’s track and field (3.214), women’s cross country (3.163), men’s swimming and diving (3.077), women’s rowing (3.069) and men’s track and field (3.037).
The department had 20 individuals with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 153 others that were 3.5 or better. In all, 307 of UB’s 520 total student-athletes (59 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.
“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for continuing to excel in the classroom,” UB Director of Athletics Allen Greene said. “Achieving a 3.0 for 10 straight semesters at a prestigious academic university like UB speaks volumes about their work ethic and motivation both academically and athletically.”
