The National Weather Service has issued an urgent alert stating that a high wind warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. in Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe and Genesee counties.

The weather service says winds are expected from the southwest at sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph. The strong winds may cause minor property damage and localized power outages. Motorists in high-profile vehicles are urged to use extra caution.

A high wind warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 mph are expected for at least an hour with gusts of 58 mph or greater at any time.
