SALEM, Mass. — Erin Gehen (W. Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season with 2:32 remaining and Buffalo State slipped past host Salem State, 2-1, tonight in a non-conference contest.
Buffalo State shook off the rust tonight, playing its first game in 40 days since falling 3-2 at Trinity on Nov. 27. Freshman Natasha Steinle (Morrison, CO/CIHA) opened the scoring for the Bengals with her second of the year 1:17 into the second period. The Vikings evened the score early in the third stanza. Buffalo State applied consistent pressure, but could not break through, including failing to convert on a 5-on-3 power play until Gehen finally netted the game winner with an assist from Lila Toczek (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) in the closing minutes. Buffalo State finished with a 28-15 advantage in shots, but was 0 for 6 on the power play. The Vikings finished 1 for 4 with the extra attacker. Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) finished with 14 saves.
Buffalo State will face the Vikings again Saturday at 2 p.m.
