The Marist Red Foxes topped the Canisius women’s basketball team, 85-74, thanks to a 48 point second half, during the Griffs 18th annual Kids Day at the Koessler Athletic Center. Despite holding a 40-32 lead at halftime, the Blue and Gold was out scored 48-34 in the final two frames in the loss. Canisius dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in MAAC play but Marist improved to 6-9 overall and 3-2 in conference action.

The Griffs tallied a strong second quarter, as the Blue and Gold outscored Marist 25-8 to end the first half. However in the final two frames, Marist offense got going, especially in the fourth quarter, outgunning the Griffs 28-14 in the final stanza.

Sara Hinriksdottir was once again the most lethal offensive threat for the Griffs, pouring in 18 points and four rebounds to end her day. Canisius had three others reach double-figures as Margret Halfdanardottir (15 points), Saliah Serrette (12 points) and Lauren D’Hont (10), helped spur the offense.

For Marist, Maura Fitzpatrick tallied a season high 28 points, to lead the team.The Red Foxes also had four more players reach double-figures as Hannah Hand (17 points), Rebekah Hand (13 points) Kendal Baab (13 points) and Claire Oberdorf (10 points) all broke the double-figure plateau.

As a team the Griffs outshot the Red Foxes, tallying a 49.1 percent mark from the field, while Marist shot 47.1 percent. Marist won the battle of the glass however, taking down 29 rebounds to the Griffs 27 and the Blue and Gold turned it over 14 times to the Red Foxes’ 11.

Canisius finishes up its three-game week on Saturday, as the Blue and Gold hosts Quinnipiac on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. Following that contests the Griffs ready for a three-game road swing, playing Saint Peter’s on Jan. 13, Monmouth on Jan. 15 and Niagara on Jan. 18.
