BUFFALO — Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports three separate DWI arrests made on Wednesday.

At approximately 1:04 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to a Boston State Road address in Boston for a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, they determined that 19-year-old Marisa Lacina of Hamburg was intoxicated and drinking alcohol in her vehicle. She was charged and released to a parent with a scheduled court date of Jan. 9.

About an hour later, deputies were dispatched to Salt and Lapp roads in Clarence where they found a vehicle had crashed into a tree. They eventually located the suspected driver along County Road. Travis Hauck, 25, of North Tonawanda was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding, and failure to use designated lane. He was released to a sober third party.

Finally, at 4:39 p.m., an ECSO deputy stopped a vehicle on Aurora Street in the Village of Lancaster for traffic violations. He determined that 20-year-old Jacob Rappleye of Lancaster was intoxicated. Rappleye was charged with felony DWI – due to a previous conviction, felony aggravated DWI – .18 BAC or higher, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, operating a vehicle without an interlock device, unlawful possession of marijuana and vehicle and traffic violations. The Deputy’s continued investigation also discovered the passenger knew that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license, possessed marijuana, and pills not in the original container. Melanie Vertalino, 42 of West Seneca, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and may face additional drug-related charges.

Rappleye was later released from the Erie County Holding Center on $500.00 bail and Vertalino was released at the scene. Both defendants face future court dates in Lancaster Village Court.
