BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres fell behind early to the visiting Carolina Hurricanes and just never caught up.

Jeff Skinner put the Canes up 1-0 just 1:44 into the game. Jaccob Slavin and Noah Hanifin assisted on the even strength. Justin Faulk made it 2-0 with 2:09 remaining in the first period.

After a scoreless second period, Johan Larsson brought the Sabres within a goal 5:32 into the third period. Sam Reinhart and Marcus Foligno assisted. Carolina closed the game out, though, with an empty-netter with 60 seconds remaining in regulation. Sabastian Aho tallied the goal with Victor Rask assisting.

The Sabres take to the ice again on Friday when they visit the New York Islanders. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.


NOTES:

  • With the loss, the Sabres failed to record a point against the Hurricanes for the first time since Jan. 8, 2015, ending a 4-0-1 run against Carolina.
  • The Hurricanes snapped a four-game losing streak in Buffalo, getting their first road win against the Sabres since Jan. 23, 2014.
