Canisius women’s basketball sophomore Sara Hinriksdottir had a career-day against Morehead State on Monday, coming one rebound short of a double-double, with 29 points and nine boards, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles downed the Griffs 77-68, at Johnson Arena. With the loss the Blue and Gold falls to 2-8, while Morehead State improves to 10-3.

Hinriksdottir was the Griffs most lethal shooter, notching 13-of-18 from the field, including a long-range bucket, to go along with nine rebounds and two assists.

Canisius also received a strong performance from senior Lauren D’Hont, who shot 7-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc to finish the game with 17 points and seven rebounds.

For the Eagles, the squad had four players reach double-figures. KayK Tate led the way 17 points, while Brianna McQueen posted 14 points and six boards.

Joining the duo with double-digits was Aaliyah Wells and Eriel McKee who both tallied 11 points apiece.

The Griffs led in many categories during the game, outrebounding MSU, 36-29, and posting a slightly better percentage from the field, notching a mark of 46.6 percent, while Morehead State posted a success rate of 46.2 percent.

The difference came in the turnover battle as the Griffs coughed it up 15 times in comparison to the eight giveaways the Eagles recorded.

Canisius has one more contest before the Christmas break, as the squad heads to Cornell for the final non-conference game of the year. That game is slated for Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. The Griffs will then engage in conference action, heading to Iona on Dec. 30 and Manhattan on Jan. 2.
