MIAMI, Fla. — Jordan Chateau (Bayside/Lowell) had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Buffalo State to a 76-68 victory over Eastern Connecticut State in the first day of the Hoop MIA D3 Holiday Shootout.

Chateau was 8 of 11 from the field and added three blocked shots. Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) added 19 points, including four 3-pointers. Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) and Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) netted 15 points apiece with Henry chipping in six steals and Smith grabbing eight rebounds. The Warriors scored the first six points of the game and pushed the early lead to 22-10. The Bengals battled back to take the lead 34-30 at halftime and never trailed again, pushing the lead to as many as 15 in the second half before hanging on for the eight-point win. Buffalo State outscored the Warriors 15-3 from beyond the arc as Eastern Connecticut was just 1 of 15 from long range. The Bengals held a 44-31 rebounding advantage.

Lovell Smith and Nico McLean are closing in on becoming the 22nd and 23rd players in Buffalo State history to score 1,000 career points.  Smith is just 32 points shy of the milestone, and McLean, who did not play today, needs 55.

Buffalo State will face Alvernia Monday at 4 p.m. to conclude the Hoop MIA D3 Holiday Shootout.
