BUFFALO — The Washington Capitals delivered a broom to the Buffalo Sabres, beating them 4-1 on Friday. 
Jay Beagle scored the Caps first goal at 6:43 of the second period, an even strength goal assisted by T.J. Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom. Jakub Vrana made it 2-0 at 12:39 of the second, assisted by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov. 
Kyle Okposo got he Sabres on the board at 12:03 of the third period. Rasmus Ristolainen and Ryan O’Reilly assisted on the power play goal. But Washington piled on with a goal by John Carlson at 14:20 and and empty-netter by Marcus Johansson at 18:48.   
The Sabres, now 10-11-6 on the season, next play on Tuesday when the L.A. Kings visit KeyBank Centre.



Notes

  • At 0-2-1, the Sabres  have suffered their first season sweep against the Capitals since 2012-13.
  • With his goal, Kyle Okposo now has six points (3+3) in his last five games against the Capitals.
    • Okposo and Rasmus Ristolainen, who assisted on the goal, are now tied for fourth in the NHL with 12 power-play points this season.
  • Ristolainen now has nine points (1+8) in his last nine games.
  • Ryan O’Reilly, who also assisted on Okposo’s goal, now has seven points (2+5) in his last six games.
