NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara women’s basketball closed out its three-game home stand with a victory over the Hartford Hawks on Wednesday night.

The Purple Eagles went on an 11-0 run to open the game, which started with a three from Rampado after a Tiffany Corselli steal. The Hawks came within five points of the lead late in the first quarter, but Niagara continued to dominate on offense and went into the second quarter leading Hartford 20-11. Maggie McIntyre sank a 3-point shot to open scoring in the second quarter and give the Purple Eagles a 23-11 lead. Points from Corselli, Stroemple, Rampado and Kharysma Bryant helped Niagara to a comfortable 36-19 lead going into halftime.

Morgan Baughman hit two consecutive threes in the third quarter to put the Purple Eagles ahead of the Hawks, 48-29, with a little under seven minutes remaining in the quarter. Rampado hit another three and Jai Moore made a layup to give Niagara a 58-47 lead going into the final quarter. With a little over five minutes remaining in the game, Stroemple made a layup as the shot clock expired to give the Purple Eagles a 66-53 advantage. Jamie Sherburne hit a 3-point shot with 16 seconds left in the game to cement the victory for the Purple Eagles.

The Purple Eagles take on No. 20/19 Syracuse at 3p.m. Saturday at the Carrier Dome.
