BUFFALO — Canisius wraps up its five-game homestand on Thursday, as the squad takes on crosstown rival, Buffalo at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN3. The Griffs enter the matchup with a little momentum, defeating conference foe, Monmouth, 74-54 on Sunday. Canisius concluded its first MAAC weekend with a 1-1 record, and with the win on Sunday, improved to 2-5 overall this season. The Griffs were catapulted to victory by a strong first half, that saw the team come four points shy of the program-record for most points in a half with 46.

The Canisius defense also did a great job smothering the aerial assault of Monmouth, holding the Hawks to 30.1 percent from the field and just 15.4 percent from long-range, an area that the Hawks excel in. The team was led offensively by sophomore sensation, Sara Hinriksdottir, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds. Margret Halfdanardottir had her best game of the season, notching 16 points and posting a career-best six assists. Saliah Serrette also continued her strong weekend, finishing with 15 points and five boards. Canisius boasts five players who average double figures, including four of its usual five starters. Hinriksdottir leads the way with 14.3 points per game, which ranks eighth best in the MAAC. Also averaging double-figures is Lauren D’Hont (12.4 points), Serrette (10.3), Maria Welch (10.2) and Halfdanardottir (10 points). The Blue and Gold are averaging 66.6 points per game, while opponents are averaging 71.1. Canisius has improved its rebounding as of late, but still trail when comparing the averages, taking down 33.6 and allowing 41.1.
