KENT, Ohio – Freshman Shane Gatling scored a career-high 18 points to lead a trio of Purple Eagles who scored in double figures as Niagara fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes, 100-72, on Wednesday night in the final leg of a four-game road trip.

The Golden Flashes, who have won over 82 percent of their home games in the last 17 seasons,
led 20-4 through the opening 10 minutes. Niagara outscored Kent State, 26-25, for the remainder of the half, led by Kahlil Dukes’ 11 points.

NU trailed 62-40 with 14:53 remaining in the game when the Purple Eagles went on a 12-2 run, with Gatling providing eight points during the spurt, all within a three-minute span. However, it would be the closest NU would get as the Golden Flashes powered their way to their sixth win of the season.

Shane Gatling followed his then career-high 13 points in the win over Iona on Sunday, by setting a new career-high with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field. Kahlil Dukes was second on the team with 17 points to score in double figures in each game this season. Dukes also led NU with three assists. Matt Scott scored 15 points to score in double figures in eight of nine games.
Dukes and Scott shared team-high honors with eight rebounds.
