Buffalo State men’s hockey forward Zach Nieminen was named a member of the D3Hockey.com Team of the Week today, per the website’s release.

Nieminen, a junior economics major, tallied five points over three games last week in helping Buffalo State to a perfect 3-0 record to improve to 8-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the SUNYAC.

Nieminen scored twice, including a shorthanded marker in the Bengals’ 4-1 victory over No. 4 Geneseo on Saturday.  The win snapped a five-game winning-streak for the Knights.  He also had a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-1 win at Brockport and picked up an assist in Tuesday’s 5-1 win at Nazareth.

Norwich’s Tyler Piacentini and Adrian’s Vinny Post joined Nieminen at forward for the team of the week.  Jack Burton (Colby) and Tuuka Totro (St. Olaf) were named to the team’s defense of the week while Max Milosek (UW-Stevens Point) got the nod at goaltender.

After the strong week, Buffalo State returned to the D3Hockey.com national rankings at the No. 10 spot after being unranked last week.  The Bengals also came in at No. 11 in the USCHO.com national poll.

The nationally-ranked Bengals return to action on Friday against Cortland at 7:07 p.m. at the Buffalo State College Ice Arena.  The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Sports Channel and buffalostateathletics.com.

Buffalo State then hosts No. 1 Oswego at 7 p.m. Saturday to close out the fall semester.
